Grounds For Health Launches Matching Campaign To Expand Lifesaving HPV Testing In Coffee Communities

WILLISTON, VT— Grounds for Health, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing cervical cancer in coffee-growing communities, is launching a matching fundraising campaign this May to bring affordable, accessible HPV testing to women in Ethiopia and Kenya.

The focus: It only costs $10 to purchase an HPV test kit, which offers a powerful path to early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.

Women make up the majority of the labor force in coffee communities. They grow, pick, and sort the beans that provide our delicious daily coffee. Due to the remote nature of these communities, many women have never received basic gynecological care, including HPV screenings, which is the leading cause of cervical cancer.

To amplify the impact of this campaign, four industry leaders—Tony’s Coffee, Swiss Water, Royal Coffee, and Royal NY—have joined forces to match every dollar donated throughout May. That means a $10 donation will fund two HPV tests, doubling the number of women reached.

With the recent dismantling of USAID programs, women are at even greater risk in Ethiopia and Kenya. Health systems in these countries are stressed, and our services are more critical than ever.

HPV self-testing is a game-changer: It’s effective, affordable, and discreet, and it allows women to take control of their health. Grounds for Health has provided this innovative screening method in their programs since 2021. Women are responding well to the technology, and GfH’s clinical teams are ready to screen 6,000 more women this summer if the $60,000 goal is reached.
